Literature Classes
These classes will empower your high school student with the critical thinking skills, knowledge, and vocabulary to enable students to read, discuss and analyze many types of English literature. Poetry, novels, and plays by authors from around the world will be explored using both the printed word and multimedia. Broaden your students horizons with a literature class that will show them how much can be gained by opening the covers of a book.
The following are objectives for every literature class.
- The student will be able to identify the literary components of the novel, plays and poetry.
- The student will be able to analyse and discuss literature and apply the knowledge to their life.
- The student will apply the themes of classic literature to the world of the past, and present.
- The student will be able to critically analyze today's English language both in print and in the media
Survey of Literature
for High School Credit This class is designed to provide the high school student with the foundations necessary to study all English language literature. All students will read works by Homer, Dickens, Dostoevsky, Camus, C.S. Lewis, Tolkien, Shakespeare and many others. Course Pre-requisites: none Supply Fee/Deposit-$100 (applied toward your tuition) Tuition- $420 per year paid in one or two payments You will also need to purchase the following books for the first semester. If you have multiple students enrolled in the literature class they may share any books except for the poetry and short story books. We will be using these during class and each student will need their own. The books on our list have been selected because they are some of the most commonly cited on college AP exams. Some of the books we will study this year may contain mature themes and some language. All literature will be discussed from a Christian world view. However, If there is material that you would prefer your student not read I will accommodate by giving them an alternate selection. |
American Literature
for High School Credit This class will provide the high school student with knowledge of American writers and the impact American writers have had on our nation and around the globe. All students will read works by Hawthorne, Dickinson, Twain, Hemingway, Bradbury and many others. High School Literature for the Reluctant Reader for High School Credit
This class has been designed especially for the struggling High School Student. The focus is on sharpening reading comprehension, grammar and test taking skills. All students will read a variety of novels, plays, poetry and short stories. Students with mild to moderate learning disabilities will flourish in this low pressure environment and learn what reading for both information and pleasure is all about. Course Pre-Requisites: none Supply Fee/Deposit - $100 (applied toward your tuition) Tuition - $420 per year paid in one or two payments. The books for this class will be posted at a later date. |
